Rebed and Point
A Common problem for Tiled roofs needing repair is cement mortar coming away from the ridge caps, Rebedding and repointing is one of the most important parts of any tiled roof restoration, and involves two key aspects – rebedding, and repointing.
This process can help to save you money on costly repairs in the future and may help to prolong the lifespan of your roof. At Royce Roofing, we have extensive experience in all aspects of roof repairs and restorations.
Bedding and pointing are important parts of a tiled roof’s structure. The bedding holds your roof ridge caps in place, while the pointing strengthens and seals them adhearing the ridge cap to the mortar. As such, rebedding is the process of removing the old cement mortar from under ridge tiles and then resetting the connected ridge caps to hold the roof tiles in place and is usually required when the mortar is broken or badly cracked. Repointing involves pointing (or sealing) the ridge caps and tiles, which is commonly done using a waterproof flexible pointing compound.
When the existing pointing or bedding of your roof becomes damaged or worn, you may experience roof leaks and other problems. Broken, cracked, or damaged mortar provides entry points for rainwater, and can lead to things such as mould, wood rot and other moisture-related issues that are often costly and time-consuming to resolve. Additionally, broken or cracked mortar may also cause your roof tiles to shift or loosen, which poses a safety hazard.
The bedding and pointing of your tiled roof will also naturally deteriorate over time as a result of general wear and tear from exposure to the elements, such as the sun, wind, and rain, as well as debris such as leaves and dirt. It is generally recommended to repoint a tiled roof every ten years, to prevent damage from occurring due to deteriorated or leaking mortar.
Repointing and rebedding is an important aspect of property maintenance for any homeowner who has a tiled roof and will save you money in the long term by preventing leaks and other issues that require costly repairs. The team at Royce Roofing will conduct a thorough assessment of your roof to determine the best course of action, and then carry out all required work to the highest safety and quality standards while keeping you informed every step of the way.
